Which One do You Like: Waffles or Spaghetti?

God created human as the most perfect creature among the other creatures in the world. Furthermore, God created all humans in the world differently, they have their own uniqueness. There is none who exactly likes someone else because everyone has special character. Without any exception men and women are having different characters. Just like Bill and Pam Farrel, American couple writer who write a lot of book about people’s characteristic, said in one of their book, “Men are like waffles, women are like spaghetti.” Actually this statement is not talking about physical appearance of men and women, but it is about their general attitude and their way of thinking, or mindset. “Men are like waffles”, it means men will live their lives inside “squares”. If you observed a waffle, you will realize that it consists of many squares that are separated from each other. Men’s mindset is divided inside the “squares” which have only one aspect in each. On the other hand, women are able to make connection between two or more aspect with other aspect in their lives. It is just like a plate of spaghetti. If you ever observe spaghetti you will see that every long thin piece of spaghetti is connecting to each others. Let me give you a simple illustration, when my father is busy with his job task he will not do or think about something else which is not related to that particular task. Unlike my father, my mother can do different activities in the same time. She prepares to cook while doing laundry using washing machine. This illustration is just a little explanation about the differences of men’s and women’s mindset. Based on my analysis, these differences give a profound influence in their lives that make both men and women are different in the way they communicate, work and interact. Well, let me inform you about those three differences to help us distinguish the characters of men and women.

            Men and women are different in the way they communicate. At least there are three things that help us to understand their differences in the way they communicate. First, when men communicate they will talk about the most important thing immediately. They like to get straight to the point, instead of speak around like women. Unlike men, women love to talk around many different topics in a conversation rather than go straight forward. Second, men generally feel comfortable with a conversation which has certain point and has a purpose of relaying information by using literal terms. Women, by contrast, enjoy talking for the sake of it only because they want to. They also like to use dramatic vocabulary to fully express and relate their feeling. The third dissimilarity is about men and women ability to connect various topics in a chat. Men will focus on one particular topic in their one “square”. For example, when some “waffles” have a conversation about a motorcycle; they will always focus on the topic about motorcycle during their conversation. Conversely, women do not only like to build a conversation, but also like to connect some topics in a conversation. “Spaghetti” is commonly able to connect a long thin piece of motorcycle with another piece of love, family, career or the other topic, within one conversation. For those three differences, I conclude that men differ from women with respect to men are not as communicative as women.

            Men and women are not only different in the way they communicate but also the way they work in a workplace. In this case I will show you two dissimilarities working style between men and women. First, men will feel be appreciated by their work partners if they can give the best solution to solve the problem. Unlike men, women will feel satisfied if their support and help in doing the solution can solve the problem. From those differences, actually men and women completed each other well to make a good work in their workplace. Second, men love to have their abilities recognized and appreciated, while women love to have their feelings recognized and appreciated. That is the reason why men prefer to work on their own and singlehandedly to train their skills and show their accomplishment. On the other hand, women like to collaborate with a person or group in order to share their feelings through interactive communication with one another. However, this difference does not mean that men are more independent than women. It proves their own natures that men are keen on stay in “square”, that is why men like to focus on a “square” to finish their work without help from anyone else. Differ from men, women natures are keen on connecting various aspects in their minds so that they do not only need to finish their job in workplace but also need an interaction with others.

            Men and women differences do not end with the way they communicate and their working style in workplace. Men and women interaction in a relationship also will show their unique characters. When a man is in troubled time, they will not let his partner to concern about him. If his partner asked him, “What’s wrong with you, are you okay?” He will prefer to say that everything is alright, instead of sharing their problem and show his weakness. It will be a good response, if women just trust in him, then just give support and admire him for their strength to overcome every problem. Whereas a women will feel be loved if her partner is always available to listen to her whenever she needs to share her problem. Besides, a woman expects that her partner is a wise man who understands and knows her needs and wants without waiting to be asked. Those two different attitudes prove that men need to feel that their attentions are needed. In contrast, women need to feel that their needed are attended. Moreover, men love to stay in “square” which help them to feel success. It will be a great moment if women can let their partner free to choose one particular activity that they like as a plan to do on the weekend. Nevertheless, if men want to have an excellent moment with women, they should strive to listen without being defensive and try to surf every long piece of “spaghetti” in women’s minds. After we know their interactions and characters, I can say that all of the distinctiveness between men and women are not a problem for making a beautiful relationship.

            Well, those are three discrepancies between men and women can help us to be aware of the uniqueness between them. First, we can conclude that men and women differs with respect to men are not as communicative as women. Second, men and women have their own working style. Men love to work by themselves and show their abilities to prove their success in workplace. In contrast, women prefer to share their feeling by work in group to finish their job. The third dissimilarity can be found in men and women relationship. Men need to feel that their attention is needed. In contrast, women need to feel that their needs are attended, so that there should be love and respect in the communication between men and women. Thus, I conclude that all of those three differences are the aspects that be influenced by their unique mindsets. By the way, you do not need to answer the question from the title above because there is no one who better than other; everyone has their own special characters which have to be respected.

The Great Advantages of Being Able to Speak More than One Language (Henny Rahmawati/807221410578)

Every country has their own national language. It is a must for the citizens to master it well. I, as an Indonesian, must learn Bahasa Indonesia and be able to use it properly in communication. Still, I learn other languages especially English though it is not a must for me to do so. As we know that English is widely used in communication across countries. Therefore, I consider that being able to speak more than one language especially English is a great advantage in these three aspects illuminated as follows.

            The first one is the social aspects. In this aspect, being able to speak English can relieve communication among people either in daily communication or in an official case. In the daily communication, for example, sometimes we encounter some strange terms that we do not know the pronunciations as well as the meanings. It is solvable if we can speak English well. In addition, it will be annoying for the listeners if we cannot use and pronounce those terms properly. In an official case, being able to speak English enables those who immerse in that occasion to use formal English properly.

            In the second aspect is the economic aspects. In this point, being able to speak more than one language especially English is highly-recommended. In a job interview, as an illustration, being able to speak more than one language especially English either passively or actively is a requirement for the applicants. In this case, those who can speak English will be more appreciated than those who cannot. Moreover, in most companies being able to speak English are also highly-expected in order to introduce products to the consumers. That is because the consumers are not only the local consumers but also the foreign ones. As an example, we know that nowadays batik has been widely used by people all over the world. It happens since we can depict understandably about batik to them, of course, by using English which is honored as an international language. Accordingly, the national income will increase if the consumers are from other countries. These achievements in the economic fields is affordable if we can speak English.

            The third aspect is the historical aspects. In this case, being able to speak English can give some benefits. It enables us to know other countries’ culture as well as histories. So, we can lessen our stereotyping of other countries as well as their stereotyping towards us. It was because we can also introduce our own culture and histories to them—other countries. 

            From the above-mentioned illumination, we can see some advantages of being able to speak more than one language, English in particular. In short, the advantages will be great in three aspects of life, social, economic, and historical aspects, if we can speak English. Think of it.

WATCHING TELEVISION AS A BENEFICIAL ACTIVITY (Muntiara Gracia P)

Nowadays, a lot of people talk about the bad effects of watching television. One of the effects is that watching television is addictive. When someone is getting attached to some programs, they will watch it on and on. Some people also believe that some programs on television are unimportant. They argue that many programs contain some uneducated materials. However, to me, watching television is not a waste of time.

Firstly, by watching television we can get access to international news. As a matter of fact, it is not difficult to find some news programs in each channel. By watching those news programs, we are able to know and update our mind with much new information outside our own country, for example the news about politics in another country. We can mention an example about the case of Syria and Turkey. In this case Syria wants Turkey to mediate its indirect peace talks with Israel and any other thing in order to be subordinate to the Turkish role. It will be impossible for us to know the case of politics in some countries if we do not watch it from television. Next, we will also be able to know the disasters that happen in many countries around the world. We can mention such as the flood that happen in southern part of Pakistan that caused the death of many animals and also human. Then, by watching television we will be able to see other’s culture. For example we can see how the old tradition of Chinese women who were trying to keep the size of her foot small by placing their foot in a very small shoes.

Secondly, by watching television we can also learn about the education from other country that sometimes very different with own. It will be very difficult for Indonesians to adopt the Home Schooling program if we are not watching that from television. Next, we are free to access the news about some new inventions in another country. We can mention such as the invention of some therapy that used by many doctors in California in order to make the stroke’s patient can do their activities like the normal people. Another example is about the invention of some equipment like robots from Japan called SDR-4X. This two-legged creature can sing and dance. It also can be programmed to recognize and respond to 10 faces with personalized greetings.

Lastly, by watching television we can get a lot of entertainment. As we know, many channels on television offers many programs that including entertainment. We can mention such as movies, dramas, quizzes, comedy shows, etc. Those kinds of programs are very entertaining. By watching movies or dramas, we are able to feel the atmosphere of the drama itself. These kinds of programs sometimes affect our emotion and mood. Next, we also able to watch the comedy programs that contain funny things that make us laugh. For some broken heart people, these programs will be very useful. So, in the last point, I can say that many programs in television can entertain us.

In conclusion, I believe that watching television is not a waste of time. As mentioned in paragraphs above, there many advantages we can get. We are possible to get much information such as news, educational materials, and also entertainment. So, I will suggest the readers to spend their free time by watching television.

The Advantages of Speaking More Than One Language

Language is very important in our life. Usually, we speak with one language and use it everyday to let people know what we think and feel. It will be easier for us to communicate to each other who speak the same language with us. However, if we talk to a person who does not speak our language, it will be hard for us to communicate with that person and we will not understand him/her at all. That is why our ability in language becomes very important nowadays. It is better for us if we have ability to speak more than on language. It will be useful in many occasions and our knowledge will increase also. Here I will mention three advantages of speaking more than one language.

The first advantage is that we will have a great opportunity for college and career. For students who want to study abroad or enroll for a scholarship, they will be asked for their language ability. Mostly, they will be asked not only English ability but also ability in other foreign languages. When we fill in the registration form, there is always an option whether we are able to speak second language beside our own language and English. It will become a consideration for the students to be accepted in the university or obtain the scholarship. Our skill in language will also be needed when we want to apply for a job. As we know that some jobs demand the applicants to have an ability to speak more than one language; for example, a tour guide and a news reader. A tour guide will always meet different tourists from different country everyday. Although the tour guide mostly communicate to the tourists using English, but I’m sure that the tourists will not understand the tour guide at all. Another example is a news reader, especially who read the news with foreign language. As we can see in Indonesia, there is a new channel which usually brings the news in Chinese language. It is impossible if the news reader cannot speak nor has ability in Chinese but he/she read the news in Chinese. That is why both tour guide and news reader must have ability to speak certain foreign language, but there are still many jobs which need a person who has ability more than one language.

Another advantage is it will be useful if we want to travel abroad. You will be easily spoken to the people if you go to some public places such as airport, hotel, restaurant, or post office. There are also some rules and procedures which should be obeyed in those places mentioned above. Although some places already written the signs and rules in English for tourist to understand, sometimes there are some mistakes when the rules and signs written in English. That is why we need language understanding so that we can follow the rules and procedures. We will not find a serious problem also if we want to ask for help because the society or the people will be very glad to help us. We will get not only an ease of communication but also a great experience. It will be much interesting and the society will be more respect to us if we able to speak to them with their language. As we know that not all of them could understand English very well, so it is better for them if we could talk with the same language.

The last is we will also get more knowledge about cultural. Culture will give an influence to the way people speak their language; for example, Germany and Austrian have a different dialect although both of those countries speak German. I have an experience with the people from those countries; the Germany said that Austrian has an old style of German. Austrian gives some emphasizing when they pronounce some words which is differently pronounced by the Germany. Another cultural knowledge that we will get is about cultural understanding. It will help us to understand our language by making comparison between our language with other languages; for instance, Indonesian and Dutch. If we compare those languages, we will know that some words in Indonesia are adapted from Dutch. As an example, the word “sepur” in Indonesia came from the word “spoor” in Dutch. Both of those words has the same meaning which means “train” in English, but Indonesian people have their own way to pronounce the word although it has same sound. That differentiation could possibly happen because the Netherlanders ever colonized Indonesia so that it gave an influence to Indonesian language. It is just a simple example; you still can find many other languages which have the same case between Indonesian and Dutch.

From the examples which I already mentioned above, we can conclude that speaking more than language not only gives some benefits but it also makes us feel challenged and interested to learn some languages. It will be very helpful for us, too. Indeed, our ability in speaking more than one language will be needed for the present and the future.

AIDS Impacts

AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a disease that has killed many people around the world. It is caused by HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) which is commonly spread by sexual activity and consuming drugs in wrong ways. Therefore, the victims of AIDS are usually ignored by communities. There are at least two dangers of HIV/ AIDS as I will illustrate below.

The first danger of HIV/ AIDS is HIV appearance is difficult to be identified in human body, therefore; the victims cannot realize if they have been already attacked by HIV. Then, in the following two years, they will be in AIDS disease. AIDS breaks the victims’ immune system, which is why they are easy to get ill. When they get illness, the illness will be difficult to be recovered. For example; if they do not have a good protection in bad weather and then they get cold, they will need some months to be recovered, while cold can be normally recovered in some weeks.

The second danger of HIV is in social life of the victims. The spreading of HIV is commonly caused by sexual activity and consuming drugs in wrong ways. Exchanging sex couples and using injection for consuming drugs without sterilization are the main factors how HIV spreads. Therefore; the victims of HIV/ AIDS are usually ignored by communities. People think that the victims of HIV/ AIDS are cursed by the things that they have done. In other case, people will not want to have a contact with the victims, for they are afraid that the virus will spread to them. These things, of course, will bother the physical condition of HIV/ AIDS victims.

The danger of HIV/ AIDS is not only about how its virus attacks our body and how AIDS disease breaks human immunity, but also about how HIV/ AIDS attack our social life. When we have already known about HIV/ AIDS, hopefully we can prevent ourselves from HIV/ AIDS and we can understand how to behave to HIV/ AIDS victims.

The Benefits of Watching Television

Television is a device that provides entertainment, news, and many more interesting programmes. Usually, people watch television at home with their family. Watching television is one activity to spend their spare time. Some people say that watching television is a waste of time. I disagree with them. I think watching television is not a waste of time as I will illustrate below.
One good side of watching television is that we can get the most up to date information. For example by watching news we know the recent things happen in our country. Such as who will be the new leader of KPK (Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi). Then, we know the latest issues happens in our environment. We know that global warming cause the ice in North Pole melting. Another thing is we get the hottest gossip of our favourite actress. Just like Yuni Shara’s plan to marry Raffi Ahmad. Also, we know the current information from other countries. Like the big flood that happened in China.
Another benefit is television can also entertain us. By television, we can enjoy our favourite music and even request our favourite song via short message service. For example my favourite song is Tears by Vierra. In Inbox ( a music programme in SCTV), the code for this song is Vierra1. So, I type Vierra1 and send it to Inbox’s phone number, 6288. Sometimes, we can take a part on a quiz program by phone or sms. Like in the end of Kiss (an infotainment programme in Indosiar), there is a question about the celebrity that they talked before. Then you call 5655676 and answer the question. Usually this kind of programme gives prizes for lucky viewer. In Kiss, you will get Rp. 500.000 if your answer is right.
Another good side of watching television is it can create togetherness of the family. Instead of going out, all family members sit together in the livingroom, watch their favourite programme, and then have a talk about it. This will make a good communication among family members. Maybe the family members have different favourite programme but it is not a problem. Parents can make an agreement of whose favourite programme will be watched first. So, there is a special schedule and all family members can enjoy their favourite programme based on the schedule. It is important for parents to decide which programme that is suitable for the children. Make sure that there are no violence or porn materials that are not good for the children.
Of course, entertainment, information, and togetherness are the things that television offers to us. We can get all those things only by watching television. Those are the benefits of watching television. So, I think it is agreeable enough if i say that waching television is not a waste of time.

Beautiful Sights of Indonesia

Each country has its own beauty. The beauty of a country can be from its unique cultures, interesting places or beautiful sights. Each country must be proud of those kinds of beauty. Moreover, every people in each country is not only amazed with those kinds of beauty, but also interested in talking about those kinds of beauty and in enjoying them. There are people who like to learn or just to know the unique cultures from a places or a country and there are people who like to go to interesting places. For some people, they like to see and enjoy the beautiful sights. Many people throughout the world visit Indonesia every year, they want to enjoy the beautiful sights that the other country doesn’t have. If you are one of people who like to see and enjoy the beautiful sights, you should visit my country, Indonesia, because my country has some of the most beautiful sights you will ever see.

Most of people in the world must have known Bali. Bali is one of the most famous islands in the world. It also becomes the most precious treasure of Indonesia. Bali is well-known for its lovely beaches. For example, there are Sanur, Kuta and Tanah Lot. Sanur beach is usually more crowded in the dawn. Tourists like to go there in the dawn because they want to see its beautiful sunrise. The spears of the sun light turn the sky into red. It is really gorgeous, so that, it can attract people to visit Sanur. Next is Kuta Beach. Kuta beach is really famous for its spectacular sunsets and waves. Kuta beach also known as Bali’s number one sunset site, every late afternoon hundreds of people gather to see the spectacular sunsets. Then, its spectacular waves attract tourists who spend hours here swimming, surfing and sunbathing. This place is a well-known destination among surfing enthusiasts: the long sandy beach with its lack of dangerous rocks or coral makes the waves ideal for beginners. One that is not less interesting is Tanah Lot. Tanah Lot means the small floating island on the sea. Tanah Lot is famous with its temple which on the reef. Something that make it more interesting is holy tame snakes in black and white color at some nooks of coral reef around Tanah Lot Temple. The local society believes that the holy snakes are as a deity property and as the guard of the temple from the bad influence. The temple is reachable in a few minutes, because it is just 20 meters from the coastal lip. Tanah Lot is also very famous among tourist destinations in Bali with spectacular view of sunset. Tanah Lot owns a magnificent view in particular at the sunset time where the sun set. Every visitor who is paying a visit to this place will be marveled to see the beauty panorama of Tanah Lot.

Move to the island next to Bali, to the west in East Java. East Java is famous for its mountains and volcanoes. Mountains and volcanoes in East Java also have wonderful scenery that is like the beaches in Bali, such as Bromo and Semeru. Mount Bromo is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif in East Java. At 2,329 metres (7,641 ft) it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is the most well known. The massif area is one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java. The volcano belongs to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. This mountain sits in the middle of a vast plain called the Sand Sea. The best views from Mount Bromo to the Sand Sea below and the surrounding volcanoes are at sunrise. Everyone knows that Bromo is the right place to enjoy the lovely sights of sunrise. There is a famous spot for seeing sunrise in Bromo mountain, it is Penanjakan mountain. The summit of Penanjakan mountain is always crowded in the early morning. Many tourists go to the summit in the early morning and they are filled the summit just for want to see the spectacular sunrise. From Penanjakan Mountain and Bromo Mountain, tourists do not only see sunrise, but also wonderful sun rising behind the landscape. Moreover, tourists will also enjoy the magnificent view of mount Semeru and mount Bromo from the summit of mount Penanjakan. Then tourist can also pass through vast of sandy area called Sand Sea and can see the Hindu’s temple held by Tengger Tribe from Bromo. Another great mountain is Semeru. Semeru is the highest mountain of Java. At 3,676 metres, this stratovolcano (the top) is also known as Mahameru (the Great Mountain). The most unique from Mount Semeru is that it spews out a smoky cloud of steam, black ashes and stones every 20-30 minutes. If you are viewing the mountain from Penanjakan mountain, you can almost be guaranteed of seeing the mini eruption, unless if you are really unlucky should the mountain decides to catch a breath, so-to-speak. Mount Semeru steep sides rise abruptly from the southern coastal plain on Java Island, although one could not see it from Penanjakan. This mountain is the favorite place for hiker, trekker or climber to have hiking, climbing or camping. The location which area prepared for these activities are Cemorolawang, Nongkojajar, camping ground in Kalimati Camp, Ranupane Village, Ranu Kumbolo, Ranu Darungan, Arcapada and other beautiful places. On the way to Kaliwati, the tourists or trekkers will pass vast field of savannah just about the feet of Mount Semeru. In Ranu Kumbolo, the tourists or trekkers can enjoy the view of beautiful lake and also sunrise by the lake of Ranu Kumbolo. When the tourists or trekkers reach the summit (Mahameru), they will enjoy the view of the major part of East Java, because they are in the highest top in Java. Those natural phenomena are really spectacular scenery in East Java.

On the west of East Java, there is Central Java. In Central Java, there are many marvelous temples. For the most famous and the most marvelous is Borobudur. Borobudur is one of the seven wonders in the world because it is the greatest Buddhist temple monument. Its construction is formed by six square platforms and three circular platforms. It has three levels of stage, ascending to the top, there are Kamadhatu (the world of desire), the lowest stage, Rupadhatu (the world of forms), the middle stage and Arupadhatu (the world of formlessness), the top stage. The monument is a marvel of design, decorated with 2.672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. A main dome at the center of the top is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues. The architecture and stonework of this temple has no equal. It was built without using any kind of cement or mortar! The structure is like a set of massive interlocking Lego blocks held together without any glue. The temple is decorated with stone carvings in bas-relief representing images from the life of Buddha. Borobudur is used as a shrine to the Lord Buddha and as a place for Buddhist pilgrimage and worship. When there is Vesak ceremonial, a Buddhist holy ceremonial, the Buddhist walking along through three Buddhist temples, from Mendut to Pawon and ending at Borobudur. There is also a performance that is called Mahakarya Borobudur which is performed several times during annual National Vesak. In addition, Borobudur was built in high a hill row from east to west, so that tourists can also enjoy the beautiful views around Borobudur, like the great view of the hills and the green view of rice fields around Borobudur. Those unique and wonderful things in Borobudur attracts tourists every moment. Prambanan is another temple in Central Java. But, different with Borobudur, Prambanan is a Hindu temple. It is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia and one the largest in South-East Asia. Prambanan also has panels of relief describing the story of Ramayana. In Prambanan complex, there are 224 temples in total, but the site is dominated by the imposing figures of the three main temples: the Brahma Temple, the Vishnu Temple and the Shiva Temple. Besides, there are 2 flank temples, 4 kelir temples and 4 corner temples. These three ancient masterpieces of Hindu architecture are locally referred to as Prambanan Temple or Rorojonggrang Temple. That complex is also surrounded by the beautiful garden where tourists can enjoy the great view of Prambanan while they are taking a rest. There is also a performance in Prambanan, that is called Ramayana. It is a traditional Javanese ballet which is performed every full-moon night in Prambanan. Prambanan attracts many tourists each year from abroad. Situated about 15 km from Yogyakarta, the top of the main shrine is visible from a great distance and raises high above the scattered ruins of the former temples. Prambanan is the best seen shortly after dawn or in the late afternoon. However it is still beautiful at any time. Because of those great views, Prambanan becomes one of the major archeologist and cultural tourism attractions in Indonesia.

Perhaps, we can find many beautiful sights in every country. In every country, there will be different sights with its own beauty. But, in my opinion, my country, Indonesia has some of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen.

Watching television is not a waste of time if we use television in a positive side.
Based on our society, many people use entertainment for coloring their life. especially, when we want ti f\get manu kinds of information that make us know anything. That's why we also need television to become our mediator to get many kind of things for our daily activities. We can also use television as a source to do something useful for our life. Or we can catch many kinds of funny thing inside television program. But I think, it depends on what we think, many western people has their own way to make a joke. But sometimes, their joke cannot be fun in Indonesian people's way to make a joke.

There are examples of Television Program that produced from uor environment. National and International Nes can make us know everything. It can also give us many kinds of information to imroving our knowledge. Cartoon or comedy films can heal our deppressed. Another great program that can motivate our life is Life Talk Show (e.g: Matio Teguh, Golden Ways), it can give us some inspiration to solve our life problems. Interactive talk show by telephon is also can be used for sharing our problems to get any suggestion and connecting with each other.

But sometimes, many people use televison in negative side. They also watch television all the day, as we know it can be dangerous for them. They cannot divide their time to spend it well. So, television can be right depends on our way.

THE ADVANTAGES OF WATCHING TELEVISION


"The idiot box", this is what people say about television, for it makes children do not want to play outside or do active activities. Many people think that watching television can influence children’s way of thinking because the children imitate everything what they see in television, for instance Spongebob Squarepants. In this program there are so many violence and pornography. Most parents have wrong perception because they do not think the positive aspects of watching television. Some television programs broadcast news programs or documentary film which can give their children more important information. So,watching television may give children a lot of benefits.
Firstly, watching tv can develop their knowledge. There are so many TV programs offer interesting and useful information, such as documentary film about nature or technology for example the National Geographic channel. Another TV program which can give us a lot of benefit is the news program. Within a minute, we can also watch the latest news from all over the world without reading first in newspaper.
Next, by watching TV we can also entertain ourselves. Sometimes there are some TV programs which lack of information or quality but good enough to make us laugh, for example comedy TV show like Opera Van Java. Some people who are really stressful maybe need the thing like this to relax and forget the problems that they have for a moment. For another group of people maybe like to enjoy musical TV shows. While listening some classical or jazz music they will feel more relax and calm down.
Actually, watching TV is efficient to spend our spare time. We can get lots of information in a short time by just sitting on a couch. It will not the same if we are reading magazines or newspaper. For busy people, time is important. In their free time, they can have a quality time together with their family.
The wrong perception about watching TV has misled us. In fact, we can get a lot of knowledge and fun by watching TV together with our family and friends. but it will not be good if we just watch TV all day long and doing nothing. So, I say that watching TV is not a waste of time because of its benefits.

HIV - AIDS

     Health, prosperity, and economy are some important aspects that government should think about but I believe that the most important thing of those three aspects is the people’s health. It is because nowadays there are many viruses that attacks people’s health; for example, mumps, chicken pox and measles, even a common cold. Otherwise, the most dangerous virus that attacks human is HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). It causes Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). AIDS is one of the deadliest epidemics in human history. It was first identified in 1981 among homosexual men and intravenous drugs users in New York and California. Shortly after its detection AIDS quickly develop into a worldwide epidemic, affecting virtually every nation. The United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) estimates that the worldwide number of new cases of HIV infection peaked in the late 1990s with more than three million people newly infected each year. However, some regions of the world, especially Vietnam, Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia continued to see an increase in the early 2000s. Well, maybe some people think that there are many aspects which support the development of AIDS. However, I believe that there are only two basic aspects, health and social, which makes AIDS become a worldwide problem. 

     The first aspect is health aspect. AIDS can become a worldwide problem because there are too many ways that makes HIV infections spread, for instance: sexual intercourse with an infected person, contaminated blood, and transmission from an infected mother to her child before or during birth or through breast-feeding. The first way, HIV transmission occurs most commonly during intimate sexual contact with an infected person, including genital, anal, and oral sex. The second way, direct contact with HIV-infected blood occurs when people who use heroin or other injected drugs share hypodermic needles or syringes contaminated with infected blood. Sharing of contaminated needles among intravenous drugs users has been a primary cause of HIV infection in ports of Eastern Europe and central Asia. Then the third way, HIV can be transmitted from an infected mother to her baby while the baby is still in the woman’s uterus. The virus can also be transmitted through the mother’s breast milk during breast-feeding. That are some example ways that makes AIDS become a worldwide problem. 

     Then, the second aspect is social aspect. Actually the social aspect is supporting the health aspect that I have explained. Well, I will give you an illustration; we are living in modern era with all of its social transformation, the people’s lifestyle is also changes, drugs abuse and free-sex are become usual lifestyle. The people in modern era are easy to stress because of all their full daily activity and; therefore, they are looking for some enjoyments such as drugs abuse and free-sex. Eventually, those enjoyments become their lifestyle and the lifestyle makes the spread of AIDS easier. The other social change is the people’s characteristic. In this era, people turn into individualistic person, they are no longer care to the others. They prefer to think and care about their own business; for example, when someone knows others who having drugs party he/she will prefer to abandon rather than to forewarn them. That is because; he/she thinks that is not his/her business and simply thinks that it is their right to have their own way.  For the result, those two examples of social change make the HIV become easier to contaminated people who live in this modern era.

     As we discussed above, from the health aspect we know that sexual intercourse with an infected person, contaminated blood and transmission from an infected mother to her child before or during birth or through breast-feeding are the way how HIV infection spreads. All of that way makes AIDS development is swift. While from the social aspect we know that people’s free lifestyle and individualistic characteristic are the aspects that cause the HIV be easier to infect people. Finally, there is no suspicion to say that those two aspects are the basic cause to make HIV-AIDS become health universal problem all over the world.

The Beauty of Indonesian Tourism Objects

         Nowadays, global warming has become the main problem all over the world. Many natural beauty ruinned by human. Therefore, most people look for something that is more beautiful and natural. Most of beautiful tourism objects spread all over my country, Indonesia. As the biggest archipelago country in the world, my country has a lot of natural tourism objects that have never been visited. Compared with other archipelago country, for example Philippine or Thailand, the natural tourism objects in my country are more unique and splendid. Thus, to me, my country has the most beautiful tourism objects that you can not find anywhere else.

         Indonesia, as a tropical and archipelago country, has a lot of beautiful tourism objects that are worth seeing. For example is beautiful natural beaches with white sands which are spread in every island. Many beautiful beaches are still natural and have not been seen by foreigners. They have white sands, turquoise seawater, diamond blue sky, and smooth running wave. Those make them really worth seeing.

         Beside the beautiful beaches, the Indonesian tropical rain forest also attracts foreigners to visit them. Take for example, Borneo and Papua tropical rain forest which lush, dense, and preserve many rare animals. Moreover, Indonesia has also unique and attractive conservation islands, which keeps very rare animal found only in Indonesia. They allow us to discover many colourful birds, bats, pythons, and many rare animals, like Orangutan, Babirusa, and also Anoa.

         The other example on Indonesian beautiful tourism objects is the unique and attractive Komodo Island. In this conservation island, we can find Komodo dragon, a large species of lizard that can be found only in Indonesia. These huge lizards become the main attraction in Komodo Island. While tourist witnesses the life of Komodo dragons, they can also enjoy beach in the island which is called “Pink Beach”. It is named so because of small red sands spread out in the white beach sand area. The stunning panorama surrounding the area is unforgettable. The islands' underwater life is also amazing when the tourist do scuba diving. All of those beautiful and attractive places are still natural and has not been ruined by some irresponsible people. Thus, Komodo island really show the unique and attractive of Indonesian turism object.

         From all of the explanation above, it is clearly stated that the Indonesian natural tourism object has not been ruined by human being. Take for example the Indonesian natural beaches, like Pink Beach, and also the conserved rainforest in Indonesia. Although Indonesia, Philippine, and Thailand are archipelago countries, Indonesia has its own attraction. So, based on the two reasons above, Indonesian tourism objects are more unique, more splendid, and more worth seeing than other tourism objects in the other archipelago countries.
