The Best Sights Ever

By Resita Sofiani (209221416642)

There are many beautiful places in the world. Some of them become famous and popular because of their amazing sight; for example, Eiffel Tower in Paris, Niagara Waterfall in USA, and the Great Wall in China. A lot of tourists visit there to have a great vacation. However, there are many attractive places to visit in my country, Indonesia. There are a lot of beautiful beaches with white sand and some ancient temples as the heritage of Indonesia. Moreover, some amazing active volcanoes will attract you with the beautiful and natural scenery. Even though there are a lot of beautiful places in the world, my country has some of the best sights you will ever see.

Indonesia has a lot of beaches in almost its entire region, but there are some of the most popular and beautiful beaches in Indonesia. Kuta Beach in Bali is one of the examples. Kuta Beach becomes very popular because of its beautiful white sand. Furthermore, people usually visit Kuta Beach in the afternoon to enjoy sunset. Another amazing beach in Indonesia is Senggigi Beach in Lombok. One thing that people usually do in Senggigi Beach is surfing because this beach has a medium wave and it is quite calm. Besides, this beach has quiet situation and it makes people like staying there to spend their time. Punai Beach in Belitung is also one of the most wonderful beaches in Indonesia. This is a white sandy beach, but the most amazing thing in this beach is some small granite stones. Those granite stones decorate the beach and it like a fence of the beach. All of those beaches make Indonesia become one of the best places to visit.

Another thing that attracts people to visit Indonesia is some ancient temples. Those temples are the heritage of Indonesia. Two biggest temples in Indonesia are Prambanan, the biggest temple for Hindu followers, and Borobudur for the Buddhists one. Those two buildings are still strong. Besides, if you visit those temples, you also can enrich your knowledge about Javanese culture from the relief around the wall of those temples. It consists of the story of Mahabharata and Ramayana epic. Prambanan and Borobudur are some of the examples of Indonesian heritage.

There are not only some beautiful beaches and ancient temples that will attract you with their amazing scenery, but some wonderful active volcanoes will also lead you to have an unforgettable adventure. Those active volcanoes have beautiful and natural scenery. Some active volcanoes in Indonesia have amazing crater like Danau Tiga Warna, the lake with three different colours. Another example is Kawah Ijen, the amazing blue green crater which surrounded by yellow sulphur stone. Mount Bromo is the most famous active volcano in Indonesia because it has wide sea sand and wonderful crater. Mount Bromo is the best place to see sunrise, so many people usually visit there at predawn.

A lot of great places spread over the world, but my country has some of the best sights. You can find a lot of beautiful beaches, some ancient temples, and wonderful active volcanoes there. All of those places will give you the best vacation in your life. Just visit my country and you will get an unforgettable pleasure ever.

Eid-el Fitri Holiday is the Happiest Time in My Country, Indonesia

by Khoirotul Amanah/ 109221422444

There are many holidays in my country. Starting from New Year Holiday, School Holiday, Independence Day, until Christmas Holiday, there can also be many other unexpected holidays. However, there is one of them which the best. This is the time when all my family and relatives can be together after such a long separation for their own business. This is the time when there are lot of foods and cookies, also extra pocket money for the young. This is Eid-el Fitri Holiday, or also known as Lebaran. This holiday is the happiest occasion in my country.

As the happiest occasion, Eid-el Fitri gathers separated family and relatives each year. Many family members and relatives are alienated one to another by several reasons like marriage and work. A daughter who is married, usually moves from her house and goes along her husband either to her parents in law’s house, or to the new one. Just like marriage, work or job also separates family. It is awful for an adult (especially male) to keep quiet only while he does not have any job; therefore, the adult people move to another place to find job easier. For example, there is a culture in West Sumatra that a growing up boy should leave his hometown and search out for an occupation which is in far away. Because of this culture, he is parted from his family, and the finest time to be together is Eid-el Fitri. In sum, Lebaran is the great occasion to be in accord each year.

Not only gathers the parted people, Eid-el Fitri is also the time when there are many cookies and foods. In Indonesia, providing cookies on the table for the guests is a culture. The cookies are various as Nastar, Castangel, Crispy, and many others. Besides, the host of the house usually serves you well by providing special meal. Take for instance, in my house, you will be served with fruity ice, while in my grandmother’s house you can find black sticky rice tapai. Furthermore, there are particular foods which are hard to be found except in Lebaran time; for examples Ketupat and Lepet. Ketupat and lepet are both covered in coconut leaves, but they are made from different composition; Ketupat is made from rice, Lepet is made from sticky rice. You will not see other days when table is full with meal other than this.

Furthermore, Eid-el Fitri is the time when there is extra pocket money for the young. When the family and relatives are together, there is a culture of my country, Indonesia, which always pleases the young. This gladness is collecting extra money from family and relatives. When you are younger from one whom has already had an income, and you have not married yet, you have completed the criteria of getting extra pocket money. The pocket money which you get is usually more than what you get on each ordinary days.

All in all, Eid-el Fitri Holiday, or Lebaran Holiday, is the most delighted time in the whole year. Everybody should be pleased in this beautiful time for several reasons; Relatives are in concert, having the various foods and cookies which are provided, and the youngsters are also happy with additional money they get.

Getting Many Opportunities with Language

by: Amalia Dewi Masyitah

“Conquer language then you will conquer the world” is what many people have said. I believe it is true because to be multilingual gives you more opportunities than to be monolingual. You may travel around the world without experiencing difficulties with the language. To be multilingual also allows you to read literature written in alter languages. Furthermore, it also assists you when you apply for a job. Therefore, it is essential that you speak more than one language as I will illustrate below.

First, consider the benefits to travel many places in the world without any trouble with the languages. The world has become so borderless that it is very easy to travel around. By speaking more than one language, one advantage you might obtain is when you are in a public area: in the airport, for instance. You will encounter no obstacle while filling the required forms printed in other languages. While you are in the plane, instead of spending time yawning and sleeping, you may have a real fun conversation with the good-looking man beside you if you speak his language. Another plus you can acquire is when you arrive in the country, you will find it easy to communicate because you speak the language as well. Imagine how much money you may spend to hire an interpreter. Those facts tell you why speaking more than one language can help you when you are travelling other places outside your country.

Another benefit to speak more than one language is the opportunity to read many books written in distinct languages. To be multilingual allows you to enjoy millions of book. Literature rich in knowledge is written not only in your first language, but also in other languages. You know when you read a translated book, you probably lose the sense of the original language because it is impossible to translate all of the original words to your own language without distorting the real meaning. Some people do not laugh when they are reading The Story of a Wimpy Kid once it is translated into Indonesian, although the original one is very hilarious. Also, regardless of your mother tongue, you can still read American playful novels or Greek romantic folk tales. I was in a fever to The Twilight Saga lately, so I borrowed the original novel. I literally cried when I read the part where Bella finally confessed she was pregnant, because the original words were so touchy compared to the translated one. That is why although I do not speak Greek, I am sure that it will be more interesting to read The Clash of the Titans in its original language. Those how speaking many languages undeniably will help you if you want to read books written in other language.

The greatest possibility to be multilingual is the opportunities with jobs. If you speak more than one language, you will be considered more qualified than those who speak only one language. Take for example, if you also speak French beside your mother tongue. There are many companies around the world prefer those who speak this language because French is the second international language. My friend’s father used to work in a France mining company with fantastic salary due to his ability of speaking French. In addition, this special skill indeed enhances your confidence because you know you have got something that not every person has it. Also, when you are being interviewed for a job, speaking other languages might be considered better, so your chance to be accepted to work will be bigger. In short, speaking more than one language also gives you more benefits with jobs.

In summary, speaking more than one language allows you to get more opportunities than to be monolingual. Travelling many places around the world, being able to read books written in other languages, and having better chance with jobs are the advantages. Those benefits have convinced me that speaking other languages beside my mother tongue offers a lot of chances.

HIV-AIDS : Everyone's Nightmare

HIV-AIDS: EVERYONE’S NIGHTMARE
by Fadhila Eka Ratnasari

Lately, everyone has already known that some deadly diseases can be such a complicated problem for the world. A disease is stated as a deadly disease if it is threatening for human life and if it is hardly to cure. Most of the people argue that the most deadly disease of this century is HIV-AIDS, which has several unexpected ways to contaminate people. It is true that HIV-AIDS was first found in Africa, but the disease had incredibly spread to every country and continent. We are living in an international society and HIV-AIDS has become the first international epidemic, easily crossing oceans and seas, attacking many countries, and killing millions people all around the world. There is no idea how to protect ourselves against HIV-AIDS. Though the disease can not be totally cured, fortunately, many scientists have conducted some researches and have found some treatments and medications in attempt to stop the spread of HIV-AIDS and also to slow down the course of the disease. Therefore, it is reasonable to say that HIV-AIDS has been a global problem which should be treated seriously soon.

Furthermore, HIV-AIDS is stated as a deadly disease since it has several unexpected ways to contaminate people. AIDS virus, which defined by scientists as HIV, is commonly found in body fluid, such as blood and sperm. Usually, HIV-AIDS contaminates others by body fluid exchange. First of all, the most common way for HIV contamination is by sexual intercourse. The second way for HIV contamination is by blood transfusion. Once HIV-AIDS is widespread in blood cells, it will easily defeat human body resistance. Nowadays, HIV contamination by blood transfusion has been prevented by screening method. This method works by checking whether some blood cell consist of HIV-AIDS or not. The third way for HIV contamination is by sharing injection needle. Drug abuser is often share injection needle they use. They do not even know that injection needle can be such a medium for HIV-AIDS contamination. But, fortunately, our government has already made a regulation for the drug abuser to register their selves so that they will get some free injection needle each month. Another way for HIV contamination is breastfeeding. A mother with positive HIV-AIDS is not suggested to give breastfeeding, so that she will not transmit the HIV-AIDS to her infant.

Though HIV-AIDS has commonly known as a human disease, actually, the long history of HIV-AIDS development had proven that the disease was first found in a chimpanzee. Then the virus surprisingly crossed to human species. The first case of HIV-AIDS in human being was first found in plasma sample taken in 1959 from an adult male living in Congo, Africa. The next year, another AIDS case was found in a lymph node sample from an adult female, also in the same country. In 1969, AIDS case was first found in America. In 1976, AIDS was also found in Norway. In early 1980s, when another AIDS case was found in USA, some scientists had finally found the origin of HIV-AIDS. In 2000, another research had conducted about the origin of HIV-AIDS. They found that HIV infection, for real, first occurred in West Africa in around 1931. A newest study in 2008 found that HIV infection first occurred in around 1884 to 1924, much earlier than the previous statement. From now on, HIV-AIDS has become a global epidemic and has contaminated people all around the world.

As a global endemic, it s true that HIV-AIDS is everyone’s nightmare since there is no acknowledged cure for its infection. But, fortunately, some scientists have found some intensive treatments and medications to slow down the course of the disease. The first one is NRTI or Nucleotide Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor, which can inhibit he virus ability from multiplying. The second one is PI or Protease Inhibitor. This medication can interrupt virus replication at a later step; prevent the HIV-AIDS virus from producing new virus. The third one, Fusion and Entry Inhibitor, is a new agent that keeps HIV-AIDS from entering human cells. This medication is usually given in the same time with Integrate Inhibitor, which can stop HIV-AIDS from becoming incorporated into human cells’ DNA. Then, for some couple with HIV-AIDS who wants to have a sexual intercourse, they are better to take a viral load treatment to count the number of HIV-AIDS virus in their body. This treatment is important for them to decide whether it is safe or not for them to have a sexual intercourse, and also to make sure that the virus is not in an enough number to contaminate their sexual intercourse partner. For some mother who wants to give breastfeeding, it is also important to take a viral load treatment so that they can prevent HIV-AIDS contamination to their infant. Besides those medications that given in early stage of HIV-AIDS infection, here are some treatments for the later stage. The first one is HAART or Highly Active Anti Retroviral Treatment, which can substantially reduce HI-related complication. For those who have already been in third stage of HIV-AIDS infection, they are supposed to take ARV or Anti Retro Virus treatment to increase the number of HIV AIDS virus in their body. Overall, even there is no idea to totally cure the HIV AIDS infection, people with positive HIV-AIDS can decrease their painful suffering by taking those treatments and medications intensively.

Nowadays, people are afraid of HIV-AIDS which has widespread all around the world. HIV-AIDS has been everyone’s nightmare since its contamination is unexpected and can not be totally cured. Moreover, some scientists have conducted some researches to settle the HIV-AIDS problem. Though they have found some treatments and medications that can slow down the HIV-AIDS infection, we still have to be aware of this disease.
